Shockley Honda GM discusses affects of Japan earthquake on auto industry

The affects of the Japan earthquake have concerned many auto dealerships alike across the country but Shockley Honda GM, Michael Shockley, says he doesn’t expect a major impact to his local dealership in Frederick, Md.

Most of Shockley Honda’s vehicles are made in the states with part suppliers nearby. The three Honda models made in Japan are the Civic Hybrid, Honda CR-Z and Honda Fit. Shockley said the production of these would be the only vehicles possibly affected for a short period of time.

“There is currently a good supply of these vehicles, and (the events) would only affect a fraction of May’s allocation and June delivery,” Shockley said. “I am told there are duplicate suppliers around the world.”

Shockley said he has received little information from American Honda Motor Co. but expects no disruption to supply as Japan moves towards recovering from the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country.
